About Me

Cllr Michael Hoy

Having been elected as a Green Councillor to Rochford District Council in 2010 for the Hullbridge Ward I have continued to serve in that capacity since then with my wife, Cllr Diane Hoy, joining me in 2011 and Cllr Stuart Wilson in 2016.  Sadly Diane passed away in September 2011 and I chose to leave the Green Party and become an independent Councillor on 1 January 2021.

In 2013 I was elected to Essex County Council for Rochford West (Hockley & Hullbridge) which I lost in 2017.  However in 2021 I regained the seat increasing my vote by over 1,000 on the 2017 results.

I have lived in Hullbridge since 2001 (Diane lived here since she was teenager) whilst my dads family lived in Hockley from the 1940’s until a few years ago and I care passionately about both villages, deploring changes which get made without any thought to the community.

I like to believe I am involved in what goes on but have to concede there are people and groups that I do not know and who do not know me, however I do take part in village activities from the Village Fairs & Christmas Lights to the Up River Regatta.

If you believe I should come to your event or visit your group please let me know, my contact details are below.

I have decided to resurrect this blog rather than start a new one.  Mainly because I know how this one works, and also because the history of posts is important.
