Hullbridge – Pooles Lane Car Park

The public car park in Hullbridge is unusual in the Rochford District in that it is free to use, it is free because Hullbridge Parish Council took a 125 year lease on it, around 12 years ago, when Rochford District Council wanted to introduce charges for it.

The car park now badly needs resurfacing and it will close for two weeks beginning Tuesday 2 April, the start of the Easter holidays.  As the Parish Council have the lease to the car park the cost of resurfacing comes out of their budget and an exhaustive tendering process has been used to get best value for the work.  Although the car park is free to use the residents of Hullbridge will be paying for this through their Council Tax, with the Hullbridge precept for next year at £48.51 per band D household.

  1. A holiday period was chosen because it is most used at the beginning and end of the school day. The Bank Holiday weekend is from the 29 March (Good Friday) to 1 April (Bank Holiday Monday) so the work does start after that weekend.
