The Private Members Bill put forward by Peter Aldous MP had its first reading in the House of Commons on 20 June this year. Parliament approved the Bill and the Second Reading will take place on Friday 19 October 2012.
The First Reading means that the Bill has permission to begin its way through parliaments legislative process.
The Bill, which is not yet written (that will be done by the Department for Communities and Local Government), will be based on the recent consultation paper and on the recommendations of the Parliamentary Select Committee.
As the Bill does have the support of the Government, in fact it appears to have all party support, it is likely to make it onto the statute books.
