Hullbridge Post Office to close – again!

Cllr Michael Hoy has received a letter from the Post Office saying the Hullbridge Post Office, at Budgens in Ferry Road, is to be closed from 17 October 2012.  This comes just a year after the village Sub Post Office was closed and a years trial begun of the new style Post Office at Budgens with a reduced service.

The letter goes on to state that it remains their intention to keep a Post Office in Hullbridge and that they are currently investigating the options available.  The letter can be read here and here.

Please make comments to the Post Office, the details are provided in the letter.  Remember it is the Post Office who closed the Sub Post Office at One Stop last year and who have failed in providing a long-term replacement.

Michael has spoken with the owner of Budgens about this.  The owner said he asked the Post Office for a few changes to the way the scheme operated to make it more economically viable, but the Post Office refused any flexibility in the running of it.

Update
As I understand some people cannot access the letter you can call the Post Office on 08457 223344 or email them at consultation@postoffice.co.uk

Hello Michael, unfortunately, I was not able to access the information at the end of the Post Office letter so wasn’t able to post a comment directly to the Post Office. It would be very easy for the ‘temporary closure’ to become a permanent situation if the Post Office do not find another Hullbridge retailer willing to take over Post Office duties. I can see great hardship for the elderly who still rely on this service for many of their requirements. Also, many of them do not have access to the Internet: how are they being informed of the closure, please?Kind regards Kathy Morgan
